Printer Error 5 When Using Windows 8 or Windows 7

If you are using Windows Vista or later Window Operating Systems, you may experience a Printer Error 5 when attempting to generate report or print from your MYOB software. This error can sometimes occur even when you're not trying to print, or if you don't have a printer installed. To overcome this issue, the first thing to check is to make sure you have the latest printer driver installed for your printer. Refer to the printer manufacturer's website to download the current printer driver for your printer, or use the CD that came with the printer. Instructions for installing the printer driver should also be provided on the CD or the manufacturer's website. Alternatively, if you receive this error and you don't have or need a printer connected, you can try installing a generic printer driver or maybe a free PDF writer (which will work the same as a printer driver). Speak to an IT professional for information about doing this. If the error persists, you can turn OFF the User Account Control (UAC) in Windows. See below for instructions. After printing your document, you can turn UAC back on. To turn off UAC in Windows 8 and 7 1. Close out of your MYOB software. 2. Open the CONTROL PANEL. In WINDOWS 7, click the Windows START button and choose CONTROL PANEL. For WINDOWS 8, from the Windows 8 Desktop, right-click in the bottom-left of the screen and choose Control Panel. 3. Click USER ACCOUNTS. 4. Click CHANGE USER ACCOUNT SETTINGS. 5. Click and drag the slider to the lowest position, in other words Never notify. 6. Click OK. 7. RESTART your computer to complete this change. 8. Print/ Preview your report. 9. Turn UAC back on by repeating the steps above and setting the slider at step 5 to the desired position.
